For over 22 years, I have presented synopses of business books at the First Friday Book Synopsis in Dallas. Each month; two books a month. Through October, 2017, my former colleague Karl Krayer would present one synopsis, and I would present the second synopsis. Since then, I have been presenting two synopses a month. (Although, with an occasional guest presenter. Karl Krayer suffered a stroke in 2017, and is no longer presenting).
In addition, for over 15 years, I have presented one synopsis a month on books dealing with social justice, for the Urban Engagement Book Club, sponsored by CitySquare. This book club meets the third Thursday of every month, at noon, near downtown Dallas.
Here is the schedule of books selected for the remainder of this year for the Urban Engagement Book Club. These books deal with poverty, racism, issues of income inequality, and Anti-Semitism. Each month, a group gathers for these learning sessions. Each synopsis is followed by a community activitist/leader, reflecting on issues raised by the book, as they relate to and impact our own community.
I think I can assure you of this – these sessions are true consciousness-raising sessions, and if you are able to attend, you will learn much. And, maybe, you will find your compassion and empathy muscles strengthened.
Here is the schedule. Come join us!
